If Words Were Water is a work in development, made of glowing and shifting text that floats a meter below the surface of a body of water. The text creates a series of up to 30 statements about our human relationship with water. Programmable layers of letters are spaced so that selecting letters in different layers allows the construction of different statements. Each statement fades in, rising up from the night sea. When dark the artwork is invisible, creating a sense that the words rise up out of nothing. Their glow also lights the underwater environment, attracting sea life and revealing a flat surface of water to be a three-dimensional volume, with its own space and life. This artwork is still in development. The latest development version was 23 meters long and with letters each 2.4 meters high.
