101 rants is a curated set of short essays, each precisely 101 words long, by a wide variety of New Zealand writers and artists. These essays are all carefully structured and formatted, and the essays function as a form of visual art, as each can be read and absorbed in around thirty seconds. Because of this they excel in gallery spaces and as street art, in environments where normally only visual art would work, not literature. 101 Rants began with just my writing, but it currently includes the work of over twenty other New Zealand writers and is approaching completion as a series of 101 of the essays, which will then be published in a book form. This installation currently features original essays commissioned by twenty-three different new zealand artists and writers, and has been installed thirteen times in galleries and at arts festivals. Each time 101 Rants is installed new essays are created for it and these are added to the overall work.
